This railway station is one of two serving the north east coastal town of Redcar in Cleveland. On the borders with the ceremonial county of North Yorkshire the town has for many years gained most of its income from being a tourist town. The station is the smaller of two in the town and attracts services as part of the Tees Valley Railway Line.
