MERSEYRAIL TRAINS is the transport system that runs electrical urban train services in Liverpool and Birkenhead, connecting Chester, Southport, Ormskirk, Kirkby, Liverpool South Parkway (for Liverpool John Lennon Airport), New Brighton, Ellesmere Port and West Kirby with Birkenhead and Liverpool.

About Merseyrail Trains

Merseyrail Electric Ltd owns 66 of the 67 stations serviced by Merseyrail trains that call at popular destinations such as Southport, Liverpool Lime Street, Ormskirk, Ellesmere Port, New Brighton, Preston, Chester, West Kirby and Hunts Cross.

Merseyrail Trains also operates services to four underground stations in Liverpool city centre, as well as a service to Liverpool South Parkway for connections to Liverpool John Lennon Airport.

The Northern Line links Liverpool with Southport, Ormskirk, Kirkby and Hunts Cross, while the Wirral Line, extending under the River Mersey, links Liverpool with New Brighton, West Kirby, Chester and Ellesmere Port.

Merseyrail train frequencies are Monday to Saturday: every 5 minutes on the inner section, every 15 minutes within the urban area, and every 30 minutes to longer distance suburban destinations (such as Chester & Ellesmere Port); Sundays: every 30 minutes to all destinations, giving half the frequency on the inner section compared to other days.

Merseyrail Trains run from before 6am until around midnight. Frequencies are maintained from first until last train, with additional services during peak hours.
