About National Express East Anglia Railways
National Express East Anglia is a train operating company and brand name of London Eastern Railway Ltd in the United Kingdom. It is part of the National Express Group and was branded as ‘one’ from 1 April 2004 to 26 February 2008.
National Express East Anglia railways provides local, suburban and express train services from Liverpool Street station in the City of London to destinations in the railway franchise known as the Greater Anglia network, stretching from north and east Greater London to Essex, Hertfordshire, Cambridgeshire, Suffolk and Norfolk in East Anglia.
History Of NX East Anglia Railways
National Express is an international transport operator and is one of the best-known travel brands in the UK. As well as their hugely successful coach company, National Express also have a long history of running train companies.
The National Express East Anglia Railway franchise began on 1 April 2004 and is due to run until 31 March 2011. It combined the services previously operated by Anglia Railways, First Great Eastern and the West Anglia (WA) division of WAGN. The large franchise was created in order to improve efficiency and reliability as part of a move to reduce the number of train operating companies providing services from a single London terminal. As a result of the new franchise, the number of operators on the Great Eastern Main Line was reduced, with the company operating most services on the line.
The National Express East Anglia Railway franchise area names from the former franchises were initially retained by the new franchise. However, all services other than Stansted Express were later branded simply ‘one’. On 12 November 2007 it was announced that, as part of a company-wide re-branding exercise, National Express would change the name of the franchise to National Express East Anglia on 27 February 2008. On 11 December 2007 the first Class 90 locomotive to have been re-liveried was rolled out of the Crown Point depot at Norwich and was pictured in service the next day.
National Express East Anglia Train Services

In addition to its domestic services the company is also a partner, with Stena Line and Nederlandse Spoorwegen, in the Dutchflyer service. All services to and from London run from the Liverpool Street terminus. It is visited by 123 million people a year.

National Express Rail Green Travel

Travelling by train is one of the most eco-friendly ways to get out and about, and by making energy efficiency a top priority, National Express is ahead of the game.
National Express is one of the most energy-efficient train operators in the UK. A project plan has been developed with nearly 50 specific plans and actions to improve energy efficiency by 25%. The plan is divided into Energy data and management processes; Electric train technical modifications; Diesel train technical modifications; Operational efficiency through good practice; and last but not least, Maintenance depot and station good house keeping.
In December 2006 National Express began to use class 360 to regenerate electricity when braking. This means that the electrical motors are used as a brake and create electricity which can be used for other trains, or put back in the national grid. It's believed this will save 16% of the energy used by the trains, amounting to 2000 tonnes of carbon per year. Heaters are also due to be modified to work only when in service, which is predicted to save 6% of the overall electric bill. And, there is also activity to improve efficiency of air-conditioning and heating, and to stop train doors being left open when not in use. National Express is working with suppliers to improve the efficiency of the diesel engines, too, by testing electronic engine management and clean fuel technology, along with real time fuel measurement. They are proud to be the first UK train operator to undertake these activities to reduce emissions.
When you're on the train, where possible, please close doors and windows when the heating or air conditioning is working to improve its efficiency and reduce energy use. National Express is proud of the efforts it has made to improve energy efficiency. Trains are already the green way to travel and National Express is in the lead to make them even better. By travelling by train instead of the car, you're helping to reduce the CO2 we produce as a nation!
